Rosh Chodesh Elul-the New Month for the 6th month of the Jewish calendar
It is upon us. The ‘scariest’ month of the year. They say, just a few generations back, people regarded this month with trepidation. The Yom Ha’din-the Day of Judgement- is upon us. Two days that decide our entire year. The question on everyone’s mind is how to get the favorable judgement. The answer is that it is based on all of our actions throughout the year.
An easy way to sway things in the proper direction is to pick a small thing that you can start doing today, every day until Rosh Hashanah–the Jewish New Year– to improve your relationship with G-d and with your fellow man. Pick something small but significant and you will be able to take that with you into the High Holidays. Being able to say to the Almighty that “this is not who I have been this past year but it is who I want to be” is all He is asking from us. Pick what you want the picture to look like and paint that canvas for the next 30 days.
